Prerequisite(s): Nine semester hours of history or consent of instructor. An in-depth exploration of the origins, major events, and legacy of the struggle to gain full equality for African Americans in the century following the American Civil War. Emphasis on the philosophies and strategies employed to realize full citizenship rights for blacks, individual and institutional leadership, the participation of women, the role of religion, and the impact of this social justice movement on the South, the United States, and the world.
