Barstow Community College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course provides in‑depth instruction in gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) techniques used in pipe fabrication and repair. Students learn the principles of pipe joint preparation and design, pipe welding symbols, and the application of AWS, API, and ASME welding code requirements for piping systems. Coursework includes the setup and operation of GTAW equipment, along with cutting, fitting, and assembling pipe components according to metals trade blueprints. Hands‑on training emphasizes producing high‑quality welds in all positions using GTAW, with a focus on precision and industry‑standard workmanship. The course also introduces both destructive and non‑destructive testing methods used to evaluate weld integrity and ensure compliance with code specifications. Prerequisite: WELD 55A or WELD 55B.
