Catalog description

This course prepares the student for working as a nursing assistant in a long-term care facility and for passing the state National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) certification exam for nursing assistants. Topics include fundamental principles of basic nursing care necessary to meet the hygiene, comfort, and safety needs of clients, as well as the prevention, identification, and reporting of suspected patient abuse. A focus on developing communicative skills and effective interpersonal relations with clients, families, and fellow health care team members is emphasized. This course also focuses on workplace competencies required for work such as professional behavior, time management, dress, and communication. This course follows the guidelines established by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). COREQUISITE: AHLT51, AHLT63, NUAS101, NUAS102 Must attend a mandatory information session, once provisionally accepted, must attend mandatory orientation, live scan fingerprinting and complete health requirements. Must be 16 years old or older. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS).
