Survey of Western Civilization: The Ancient Near East to 1648

This class will cover the emergence of Western Civilization from its roots in the Middle East, its flourishing in Greece and Rome, through Medieval society, to the Renaissance. It is a survey course covering political, economic, social and technological developments and their effect on future generations. There is a focus on major historical personages and important historical problems.
