Hair Cutting and Product Knowledge

Catalog description
This course provides students with theory and practical knowledge of hair cutting techniques and hair products used in cosmetology. Using proper sterilization and sanitation techniques on all equipment and instruments, students will learn hair analysis, shampooing, use of scissors, razor/shaper, electrical clippers/trimmers, thinning/tapering shears for wet and dry cutting. In order to meet state requirements for testing, students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent or have completed 10th grade and passed an Ability to Benefit (ATB) and be at least 17 years old. Beginning Cosmetology (COSM 50B) is a continuation of a fundamentals of cosmetology. Theory in rules, regulations, and sanitation, professional image, bacteriology, basic procedures of draping, shampooing, haircutting, thermal iron techniques and hair augmentation are taught by lecture and demonstration of supervised work practice. To meet state board requirements for testing, students must have a (GED)or have completed 10th grade and passed an ability to benefit (ATB) and at least 17 years old. Prerequisite: COSM 50A.
