Cosmetology Fundamentals

Catalog description
This course provides students with the fundamentals of cosmetology including the purpose of sterilization and proper procedures and techniques in protecting the health and safety of the client and technician. Students will learn hairstyling, finger waving, pin curling, comb-outs, straightening, waving, curling hot curling irons and blow-dry styling and the importance of general human anatomy, physiology, circulatory, nervous, and endocrine systems. In the cosmetology industry, ergonomics, theory of electricity in cosmetology, bacteriology, communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, and Staph and Safety Data Sheets. In order to meet state requirements for testing, students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent or have completed 10th grade and passed an Ability to Benefit (ATB) and be at least 17 years old.
