Catalog description
This course examines psychological theories and research related to sport and exercise behavior. The course is designed to introduce students to the field of sport and exercise psychology by providing a broad overview of the major topics in the area. Content areas include participation in sport, personality, motivation, arousal and anxiety, reinforcement, team dynamics and cohesion, leadership and coaching, performance improvement, psychological skills training, arousal regulation, imagery, self-confidence, goal-setting, concentration, health and well -being, exercise behavior and adherence, injury and rehabilitation, children and sports, and character development. Attention will be given to the integration of these content areas and the perspective of the Ca tholic understanding of the human person. Prerequisite: PSYC 201* or EXER 270.
