Catalog description
Focus is on the professional nurse's role in applying the principles of leadership and management in clinical environments, the role of the nurse leader and the importance of safe nursing practice will be discussed and explored. Barriers to practice , regulatory, legislative and political processes relating to professional practice will also be examined. Emphasis will be on understanding nursing leadership roles and inter - and intra-professional collaboration in the development of performance improvement and quality assurance and the use of technology to increase efficiency of healthcare services and improve patient outcomes. Concurrent course is NURS 450 C where leadership and management experiences in a clinical setting with preceptor is provided. Prerequisites: Admission to the Nursing Program, NURS 200, NURS 215, NURS 310, NURS 315, NURS 330, NURS 335, NURS 340, NURS 350, NURS 360, NURS 410, NURS 420, NURS 440.
