Catalog description
This course is designed to introduce the student to the nursing profession and its history, theoretical foundations, ethics, standards, clinical principles and the impact of the professional nursing on patients and society and to professional nursing , historical trends and nursing roles and responsibilities in the contemporary health care environment. The identity of the professional nurse and therapeutic nurse -patient relationships will be discussed. Principles of therapeutic communication and collaboratio n will be addressed. The roles of Caregiver, Advocate, Leader, Mentor, Researcher, Educator and Collaborator will be discussed. Legal and ethical dilemmas, and policy and procedural issues will be introduced. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills will be challenged with real life scenarios.
