An historical survey of music in Latin Rite Catholic liturgical music from the early Church to the present day. Different genres, styles, forms, and practices of chant, hymnody, polyphony, and instrumental music are studied in relation to theological and liturgical developments, and in relation to Church documents from the Patristic era to the present.
