Catalog description

This course studies the mechanical physical properties of stress and strain in materials. Various loading modes are analyzed, including normal, bending, torsional, shear, and combined loadings on structural components. Stress and strain transformations, Mohr’s circle, beam and shaft design, tensile and compressive testing, stress concentrations, buckling of columns, deflection of beams, and energy methods are introduced. Laboratory experiments validate theory with hands -on engineering applications. Prerequisites: MECH 100, PHYS 222.
