Catalog description
This course trains students in the art of public speaking, while it also examines the history of public discourse. Students consider the multi-variant meaning of words and explore why certain messages have resonated with audiences at points in history, and why these same messages eventually take on other meanings and cease to be effective. The course also investigates issues related to the economic, technological, political, and social determinants of the character and content o f mass communications and their effect on society. Prerequisite: COMM 200.
