Catalog description

Introduction to computer-aided drafting using CAD software and sketching to generate two- and three-dimensional drawings based on the conventions of engineering graphical communication; topics include spatial relationships, multi-view projections and sectioning, dimensioning, graphical presentation of data, and fundamentals of computer graphics. A basic course including layout and design of electro-mechanical equipment from engineering notes and sketches. Students will also be introduced to engineering topics such as finite-element analysis (FEA), tolerance analysis, materials and finishes, welding, and top-down design techniques. Additional advanced topics include stress/deflection and press-fit hole tolerance calculations using mathematical models. Students will design and document real-world mechanical parts and assemblies.
