Rigging and Automation

Catalog description
A second level course that fulfills requirements for the Scenery and Lighting degree track. Basic rigging and automation topics such as counterweight principles, arena rigging, torque, power, bridles and slings, and motors will be examined. Safe work at elevation will be a constant class priority, as well as other safety concerns such as load limits, weight calculations, and proper installation of hardware. This course will be taught in a hybrid style, with lectures and lab work closely interconnected. Most lectures will include lab scenarios chosen from real stage designs, with instructor supported analysis and extrapolation.
