Clinical - Dental Hygiene/Hygienist II

Catalog description

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Clinic II is the second of the three successive clinical courses. This intermediate level competency-based clinical course uses the process of care model of assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Critical thinking skills, time management, and self-assessment are emphasized for the practical application of dental hygiene theory. Students deliver comprehensive dental hygiene care for patients of all ages, including children, adolescents, and adults. This care encompasses treatment for medically compromised individuals and moderately complex cases. Advanced diagnostic and instrumentation technologies are introduced. In the clinical setting, students will also serve as patients for their classmates and complete manikin exercises. Students are assigned to limited off-site clinical activities. Clinical practice is an unpaid learning experience.
