Sport Law and Ethical Decision-Making

Catalog description

This course provides a foundation for general legal concepts and familiarizes students with those legal issues and ethical decision-making they are most likely to encounter as coaches and managers in the sports industry. Topics covered include tort law, negligence, acts and amendments, employment law, compliance with codes and regulations, and the regulatory authority of the NCAA, including Title IX, The Americans with Disabilities Act and gender equity within the sport industry. Students will examine theories of ethics, concepts of morality, personal philosophy regarding social responsibility, and professional code of ethics, lawsuits and case studies that have established current laws and regulations.
