This course is designed for aspiring superintendents and focuses on understanding a broad range of issues that are critical to the success of a new superintendent. The course will include the elements of policy development and analysis in public school districts. It will examine develop. the relationship between policy development and decision-making in education. The major purpose of this course is to acquaint the candidate with the human and institutional issues of managing school districts and working with a Board of Education, professional and support staff, parents, students, federal and state regulatory policy, and the greater educational community. The role of the school district superintendent is analyzed with reference to the job responsibilities, knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to serve successfully in the position.
