Transpacific Hist I

Catalog description

Transpacific history bridges American studies, Indigenous Pacific Islander studies, and Asian studies. The history of Hawai'i brings into focus key themes of transpacific history, including indigenous rights and perspectives, colonialism, migration, and militarism. This course examines the history of Hawai'i, from the late eighteenth century to the mid twentieth century. Following the conclusion of the course, students will take HIST 354 (2 credits), which will include a week of site-based learning in and around Honolulu, Hawai'i. Prerequisite: any Augustana history course, Intro to Asian Studies, or permission of instructor.
