Examination of issues related to what schools are for and how people learn emphasizing the active construction of meaning by learners. An introduction to fundamental concepts and skills needed to assess student learning, including educational goals and learning objectives, purposes and development of formative and summative assessments, standardized tests, performance assessments, and practices of grading.
