Molecular Genetics

Catalog description
This course explores the structure, function, and regulation of genes at the molecular level. Students examine the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic inheritance, expression, and variation across diverse biological systems. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to a laboratory experience where students apply modern molecular techniques-such as nucleic acid manipulation, amplification, sequencing, and bioinformatics-to investigate biological questions. Through these practices, students gain a deeper understanding of how molecular data is used to address contemporary challenges in fields ranging from evolutionary biology and ecology to medicine and biotechnology. Prerequisites: BIOL-250 and permission of instructor.
