Neurosurgery Externship (4 to 8 Credit Hours)

Catalog description

This externship provides opportunity for combining the direct patient care responsibilities of a junior house officer with practice in performing neurological examinations while participating with staff members in the practice of neurosurgery. The extern will be assigned eight patients for which they will have primary responsibility for daily care under the supervision of the senior house officer and staff of the Neurosurgery Service. They will participate in patient evaluations in the clinic and in daily teaching conferences. This elective provides for a close working relationship between the staff and the student while at the same time providing opportunity for patient care responsibilities. Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
