Surgery Ambulatory Selective

Catalog description

This course is a 4-week selective with 100% of the focus on outpatient care of surgical patients. Students on this rotation do not not scrub in the operating room for procedures. The primary focus of this selective is to increase the student’s capacity to function as a caring, increasingly independent but supervised clinician in an outpatient setting. During this selective, students acquire the clinical skills, knowledge and professional attitudes, and behavior necessary to evaluate, diagnose, and treat adult patients with a wide variety of illnesses. This rotation is designed to fulfill the ambulatory selective requirement. The four week selective is comprised of the following: General Surgery (Working with Surgeons, and in some instances APPs) and Subspecialty Surgery (Vascular, Urology, Thoracic, Orthopedic, ENT). Lab Hours: 12 Contact Hours: 12 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
