Study of the family as an institution in society. Examines why the family takes particular forms in particular societies, and what forces are responsible for changing and shaping it. Attention given to the position of men and women in society, social class, ethnic and racial differences, and historical and comparative materials. Prerequisite(s): ( SOCI 1101 >= D or SOCI 1101H >= D or SOCI 1103 >= D or PSYC 1103 >= D) and SOCI 1160 >= D Lecture Hours: 3 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
