Catalog description
Adhering to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) standards as dictated by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in SLP and in accordance with The Council for Clinical Certification in SLP (CFCC) standards for professional certification, graduate students are required to obtain a minimum of 400 clock hours (375 supervised clinical practicum) for graduation. During this adult externship, graduate students participate in direct patient/client contact while supervised by an ASHA-certified clinical preceptor(s) to refine their clinical independence during a full-time clinical experience. Graduate students demonstrate entry-level SLP clinical competency skills by providing meaningful and efficient patient care management, independently gather and use relevant information including co-morbidities, cultural and social background, and social support to develop and implement a plan of care with other specialties for optimal patient outcomes.
