Cultural Responsiveness in Speech-Language Pathology

Catalog description

This course covers multicultural issues in SLP across all aspects to reflect diversity, equity, and inclusion of the visible and invisible diversity of our ever-evolving global society to meet the speech, language, swallowing needs across our culturally diverse population. Explore DEI initiatives to gain awareness and sensitivity to remove structural and social barriers in the therapeutic setting to optimize evaluation and treatment. Graduate students participate in open discussions regarding issues in the provision of services to multicultural populations including cultural norms, cultural competence, and the SLP scope of practice. Graduate students have the opportunity to participate in service-learning opportunities via AU-related health fair opportunities (i.e., Costa-Layman Outreach Health Fair sponsored by the College of Nursing, Clinica Latina, and Equality Clinic sponsored by the Medical College of Georgia).
