Adult Assessment and Intervention (with Diagnostic Lab)

Catalog description

This graduate-level course complements SLPP 5203 by providing screening, evaluation, and assessment processes related to speech-language-communication disorders. Content encompasses planning, informal, standardized assessment, and interpretation for the development of appropriate goals and outcomes. The purpose of the course is to introduce the student to the process of adult evaluation and assessment required to identify, define, differentiate, and plan for therapeutic intervention. Students develop prerequisite knowledge for functioning in the capacity of a diagnostician. Learning is facilitated through lectures, observation, discussion, and simulated lab screening/evaluation competencies to determine the appropriate screening and evaluation tool(s) to diagnose and treat adults with speech-language, cognitive and/or communication impairments secondary to a new medical onset.
