Professionalism, Ethics, and Counseling in Speech-Language Pathology

Catalog description

This graduate-level course reviews and discusses the following important ASHA documents: SLP Scope of Practice, SLP Code of Ethics, Preferred Practice Patterns, and CFCC guidelines in reference to professionalism, medical/clinical ethics, and basic counseling principles as an entry-level SLP. Topics include: preparation for the Praxis Exam, SLP professional role, credentialing, ethics, legal considerations involved in the delivering SLP services, legislative mandates affecting the profession, service delivery systems, healthcare reimbursement issues, state licensure, national certification, state teacher certification requirements, job opportunities, SLP professional organizations, and professional advocacy. Students have the opportunity to participate in an interprofessional mock job interview to practice their interview skills with potential employers and program faculty from other disciplines.
