Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism

Catalog description

An introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanism with emphasis on the structure and function of the various components involved in speech and hearing. The course focuses on five subdivisions of the human body: neurological, respiratory, laryngeal, pharyngeal, and auditory. Each subsystem is examined with regard to its contribution to speech production, as well as how the subsystems work together to produce speech. The discussion section expands upon course lectures by focusing on instrumentation and methodology used in research and clinical settings to assess the structure and function of the speech mechanism in both normal and disordered populations.
