Intro to Intelligence: Theory and Practice

Catalog description

Introduction to the theory and practice of intelligence. Students are introduced to the history of U.S. intelligence, the five collection disciplines, analytic methods and problems of analytical bias, ethical issues in intelligence, as well as an overview of foreign intelligence entities (FIEs). Case studies are heavily replied upon, especially regarding the use of analytic methods and the challenges of intelligence collection, as well as the operations of both U.S. and foreign intelligence agencies. Additionally, given this is a course focusing on the “practice” of intelligence, students are asked to produce several intelligence assessments in memorandum format, as well as an in-depth research paper on a relevant topic related to the U.S. Intelligence Community.
