Introduction to Dental Sciences

Catalog description
This course introduces the student to basic dental terminology, instruments and laboratory equipment, and the risks associated with their use. It familiarizes the student with different types of dental stones and impression materials, and their use in the fabrication of diverse types of casts. The course presents basic information on the microbiological aspects of dentistry; dental infection control procedures; instrument sterilization; state dental board rules; four-handed dentistry; and interpersonal skills to enable freshman dental students to safely assist and observe upperclassmen in clinics. Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 2 Repeatability: May be repeated for credit up to two times.
