Catalog description

This course explores the development and interrelationship of cognition and language, emphasizing their roles in learning and communication. It presents language as a dynamic, living system - encompassing phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and discourse - and examines theories of cognitive and language development. The course also covers the principles of first and second language acquisition and the impact of cognitive, affective, and socio-cultural factors on language learning, including the critical period hypothesis. Emphasis is placed on practices that promote language and cognitive competencies across diverse contexts and student populations.
