Health Promotion and Wellness in Physical Therapy

Catalog description
This course introduces cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, including system control, exercise responses, and training adaptations, as the foundation for exercise prescription to improve health and fitness across the lifespan. Learners will examine strategies for disease prevention, chronic disease management, mental health, and wellness promotion through screening, physical activity, stress management, and health behavior change. The course also explores the impact of social determinants of health, health policy, and community resources, emphasizing the physical therapist’s role in advocacy, interprofessional collaboration, and improving health outcomes. Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 1 Repeatability: May be repeated for credit up to two times.
