Medical Physiology II

Catalog description

Physiology is the fundamental basis of medicine. Physiology emphasizes understanding the mechanisms of life by integrating molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, and whole-body function. This course will focus on the mechanisms of healthy body functions and normal responses to the environment. This course is a continuation of the PSIO 8110 Medical Physiology I course, and will cover three major modules - Module 1: Gastrointestinal Physiology; Module 2: Endocrinology; and Module 3: Neurophysiology. Module 1 covers the normal physiology of the gastrointestinal system. Module 2 covers the numerous classes of hormones, hormone production and signaling in normal physiology. Module 3 covers the functions of human nervous system. The goal of this course is to provide students a comprehensive understanding of the functions of these important physiological systems. This course (PSIO 8810 Medical Physiology II) is cross-leveled with PSIO 6810, and includes an additional assignment for doctoral level component. PSIO 8810 and PSIO 6810 are equivalent courses; a student may not receive credit for both. Lecture Hours: 6 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
