Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Externship (4 to 8 Credit Hours)

Catalog description

This elective involves both outpatient and inpatient care. The student will learn how to formulate a diagnostic workup. A treatment plan will be developed and the multidisciplinary approach to patient management will be emphasized. The student will attend outpatient clinics each day and evaluate both new and established patients. Blood, spinal fluid and bone marrow smears will be reviewed. A research project can be a part of this elective if the student so desires. Lecture Hours: 10 Contact Hours: 50 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
