Philosophical Foundations of Nursing Science

Catalog description
This doctoral course is designed to assist the student in analyzing major philosophies of science as foundations for nursing knowledge. The general course focus will be on the influence and applicability to nursing of a variety of positivist, post-positivist, and post-modern views on the nature of scientific progress. Students will critically examine the claims of various conceptualizations of the natural and social sciences with a focus on distinctions in epistemology and ontology. Implications for nursing science will be emphasized. Contact Hours: 3 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
