Catalog description

This course provides the student with clinical experiences within the scope of the pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) centered on health promotion, health maintenance and management of acute and common health problems of children from birth to adolescence. Emphasis is on the child within the framework of the family. Emphasis is on the description of the condition or disease, etiology and incidence, clinical findings, differential diagnosis, management, complications, preventive and patient education measures. Discussion will include non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic management of acute and common health problems including immunizations in support of health promotion and maintenance. Consideration is given to cultural and ethical issues that affect children, families, and healthcare delivery. The role of the PNP regarding management, family involvement, health promotion and teaching, health maintenance, and continued collaboration with health professionals will be emphasized.
