Catalog description

The student will learn the basic techniques for performing electrodiagnostic studies in patients. It is expected that the student will learn when to order these studies and how they will aide in neurological diagnosis. The student will learn how to perform nerve conduction studies and it will be expected that they will be able to do them. They will learn the proper techniques for performing needle exam and what the meaning of common abnormalities are. They will learn how to properly image a nerve using ultrasound. They will learn how ultrasound can be used to localize nerves and muscles for therapeutic injections. They will learn about the role of botulinum toxin injections in the treatment of neurological conditions. They will participate in biweekly EMG/neuromuscular conferences Lecture Hours: 12 Lab Hours: 148 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
