Catalog description

Months Offered: September through June (applications must be submitted to the Epidemiology Program Office at CDC by May 30 of the student’s third year). This elective is designed to introduce the student to applied epidemiology, preventive medicine, and public health as practiced at CDC. Students have the opportunity to actively assist in epidemiologic investigations of infectious diseases and in studies of a wide variety of public health problems such as chronic, environmental, and occupational diseases, injuries, and reproductive health. Students work under the supervision of CDC epidemiologists and work on specific projects. Students are also exposed to day-to-day operations and a broad range of activities at CDC. Familiarity with computers and data analysis is helpful but not essential. Students are responsible for providing their own living and travel expenses. Lecture Hours: 10 Contact Hours: 40 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
