Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in Family Medicine Practice (4 to 8 Credit Hours)

This hands-on elective provides medical students with an immersive experience in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) within the context of Family Medicine. Open to both osteopathic (DO) and allopathic (MD) students, the course emphasizes integrating osteopathic principles and manipulative techniques into primary care practice. Students will gain exposure to diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal complaints, sports injuries, and systemic dysfunctions with hands-on OMT techniques. Students will: (1) Participate in continuity clinics and didactics; (2) Practice OMT under supervision using techniques such as muscle energy, counterstrain, and myofascial release; and (3) Learn to incorporate osteopathic models of care in real-world outpatient settings. This elective is valuable for students pursuing osteopathic training or seeking to improve their physical examination and manual treatment skills. Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
