Media Literacy and Education

Catalog description

This course examines the role of media literacy in education and society. Students engage in inquiry-based analysis, evaluation, and production of media, exploring its principles and practices from multiple perspectives while considering media structures, strategies, and underlying assumptions. Topics include informal fallacies, social media, journalistic formats, and source validity. Students explore how media literacy can be applied in teaching and learning to support informed decision making, as well as explore international approaches to media literacy in public schooling. Lecture Hours: 3 Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.
