Art of the Renaissance

Catalog description

This course presents a global survey of Renaissance artwork and architecture from the 14th through 17th centuries. Students will examine innovations in artistic techniques, the influence of early medical sciences, patronage systems, and cross-cultural exchange that shaped Renaissance creativity. Artists studied include Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Filippo Brunelleschi, Titian, Hans Holbein the Younger, Sofonisba Anguissola, Jan van Eyck, and more. The course emphasizes the period’s enduring impact on global art history and visual culture.
