This upper-division course explores philosophies of art through major debates in contemporary art theory. Students will examine how philosophical discourse illuminates the changing role of art and artists in society today. Key topics include ways of defining art, aesthetic judgment, distinguishing art from other forms of expression, and the impact of technological innovation on the work of art.
