Educating for Public Health: Theory, Objectives, and Assessment is a 3-credit course designed to study foundational learning theories, learning objectives, and assessment methods that inform effective teaching and learning in public health education. The course examines how individuals acquire knowledge and skills through the lens of key learning theories, with a focus on their application in public health contexts. Emphasis is placed on the development of well-structured learning goals, objectives, competencies, and student learning outcomes, and how these elements guide instructional strategies, assessment design, and course development. Additionally, students will critically evaluate a variety of assessment tools and exam formats, including multiple-choice items, essay questions, checklists, rubrics, multi-source feedback, and classroom assessment techniques to determine their appropriateness and effectiveness in measuring learning outcomes in public health education settings.
