How does archaeological knowledge about the past inform debates about social challenges that exist in the present? To explore this question, students will examine traditional subjects in world archaeology, including the origins of human culture and society, the rise and fall of civilizations, and the existence of social differences in the past. Within those subjects, topics covered may include war, political conflict, social stratification, migration, environmental change, resource management, and patterns of disease and illness, among others.
