Catalog description
This course enables graduate students who anticipate having prescriptive authority in the advanced practice role to expand pharmacological knowledge and integrate evidence-based treatment modalities of common acute and chronic health conditions into practice. This course will provide the student with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to assess, diagnose, and pharmacologically manage a patient’s common acute and chronic health conditions in a safe, high quality, cost-effective manner across the life span. Emphasis is on the development of therapeutic decision-making in drug selection for the patient based on the identified acute or chronic health condition(s), individual variations, patient preference, and economic considerations as well as other diverse characteristics across the life span. Further, a focus includes prescriptive practices, patient education, and monitoring for therapeutic response to pharmacologic agents.
