Fluency Disorders

Catalog description

This course provides students with the opportunity for advanced study of the etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis, and treatment of fluency disorders. Students will learn to apply counseling principles and techniques to clinical practice that can be useful for expanding their clinical effectiveness. Measurement of primary and secondary stuttering behaviors and related client feelings and attitudes are discussed. Readings and case studies also include a comprehensive examination of intervention strategies for use with children and adults who stutter. Additionally, principles and techniques of counseling will be integrated into the assessment and treatment of individuals with fluency disorders in a manner that will be applicable to other intervention areas.
