Catalog description

This course presents a survey of important works in early English literature. It includes a variety of literary genres, including poetry, drama, fiction, and nonfiction. Writers typically include the Beowulf poet, Gawain poet, Chaucer, Spenser, Sidney, Marlowe, Donne, Jonson, Shakespeare, and Milton. The course emphasizes English literature as a reflection of culture and ideas.
