Catalog description
This course provides a comprehensive study of operating system security principles, mechanisms, and defenses. Students will explore access control, authentication, privilege management, system hardening, malware defenses, and auditing within modern operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS). The course combines theoretical foundations with hands-on security analysis, emphasizing real-world attack and defense scenarios. The course discusses how to take advantage of the layers of security available in these operating systems and explores the use of both open source and proprietary tools when building a layered security strategy for operating system environments.
