This Career Center course introduces the basic building materials, components, methods, and sequences used in residential and light commercial buildings. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of safety, math, tools, and carpentry related to the industry. This course will enable students to identify and utilize tools, equipment, and materials common to the industry. This course will enable students to identify and utilize tools, equipment, and materials common to the industry and to perform basic entry-level carpentry skills, such as wall framing and layouts, ceiling joist and rafter cutting and layouts, as well as basic roofing components and stair design. Students will gain knowledge and skills in both the traditional classroom and in hands-on performance projects and will be able to identify various employment opportunities which utilize these skills.
