Catalog description

Highly encouraged to already have taken Medical Terminology and Human Anatomical Structure or have previous knowledge of the cardiovascular system. Students will learn how to prepare the blood collection site; choose the proper collection tools; and handle the transportation, processing and management of collected samples. Emphasis will be placed on infection prevention, proper patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, and quality assurance for proper laboratory procedures and in order to avoid contamination or infection of yourself and others. Medical and legal ethics as they related to phlebotomy services are also taught. Lecture.
